October 10th marked Young Minds’ Hello Yellow Day where schools across Meridian Trust came together to stand up and raise awareness for young people’s mental health.
Pupils across the Trust took part in a range of activities and engaged in important discussions surrounding mental health.
By wearing yellow, pupils helped to spread the word that whatever people are going through, they are not alone with their mental health.
At Downham Feoffees Primary Academy, there were a number of important activities taking place. In Reception class, pupils explained different emotions they had talked about.
Year 1 talked about how a ‘growth mindset’ can help you overcome setbacks. Children in Year 3 thought of ways they can make their classmates happy. Year 4 learned about the art of breath control in anxious situations. In Year 5 class, pupils explained the difference between physical health and mental health. Year 6 children made paper chains which had people’s feelings on the outside of the loops, and how they could deal with them on the inside of the chain.
Across the Trust, schools signified their support for #HelloYellow by wearing yellow clothing. Staff and pupils at our recently opened Weldon Village Academy all came together for a great photo, with teachers and students sporting yellow.
At The Ferrers School, pupils and staff had the opportunity to get a photo with the Young Minds’ photo frame, making for some fantastic pictures. Oakley Primary Academy also got involved in wearing yellow to showcase their support for #HelloYellow.
NeneGate School marked this day through a variety of activities and discussion during form time. Yellow themed food was being prepared in the kitchen and the primary students engaged in Hello Yellow themed arts and crafts.
Martin Bacon Academy also joined in preparing an array of yellow themed foods for their students to enjoy. The foods ranged from cakes, fruits, savoury snacks and much more.
