World Book Day was, as always, a huge success across our Meridian Trust Primary Schools. Here’s a brief summary of just some of the activities from the day…
Students from Downham Feoffees Primary Academy dressed as their favourite book characters, including Matilda, Dumbledore, the Christmasaurus and everything in between! The children delighted in explaining their clothes and accessories and introducing each other to new books and new ideas for things to read.
Year 6 Picasso class designed and wrote book recommendations for their favourite authors. Year 5 Da Vinci class took part in the official World Book Day Live Lesson, in which Michael Rosen explained the processes he goes through when creating a new story. Year 3 Hockney class drew maps and then created multiple different stories using the map to show how powerful they can be in storytelling. The children enjoyed a ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ themed lunch, which proved very popular.
The children at Bar Hill Primary School brought in their favourite book and were given the opportunity to share their books with their class, before pairing up with different classes to read an enjoy their books together.
Pupils took part in a range of book-themed activities including a ‘footy booky quiz’ for KS2, creating headbands based on their favourite stories (which they then wore at lunch), and a whole school focus on the book, A Mouse Called Julian by Joe Todd Stanton.
The school also hosted a 4-day book fair (after school) to raise funds to purchase new books for the school.
Martin Bacon Academy celebrated World Book Day with a ‘Hungry Caterpillar’ themed lunch thanks to the creativity of the fantastic catering team at the school.
Those from Bluecoat Primary School went to impressive lengths with their costumes, showcasing their book-themed outfits in a costume parade for parents. Pupils enjoyed a ‘reading swap’ – where they heard different adults reading throughout the day and held a successful book sale at the end of the school day.
Not to be outdone by the Primaries, Stamford Welland Academy enjoyed ‘heroes and villains’ themed World Book Day with some impressive costumes from the teachers! Students attended a pop-up book bistro, while Mrs Hannan led a reading session with cakes and refreshments.
All in all, a fantastic day, that has become a real highlight of the school year for many of our Schools.
