Initial work has started to prepare the ground for the build of Weldon Village Academy.
Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT) will run the school built on the site at Weldon Park, Oundle Road, to the east of Weldon, Northamptonshire. It is expected to be complete in time for the 2023/24 academic year.
The school will serve students from across the whole of Corby and surrounding villages. Once complete, it will be an 8 Form Entry Secondary School and 6th Form. The school will provide a total of 1500 school places, including 300 pupils within the 6th Form.
The build is in partnership with the Department for Education (DfE) and construction companies Mott MacDonald and BAM Construct UK.
Also within the site will be a four-court indoor sports hall, a multi-use games area, two-full sized football pitches and three five-a-side pitches.
Landscaping sympathetic to the local area, along with associated parking, infrastructure and access arrangements, including the construction of a new roundabout on the A427 Oundle Road, are also fundamental areas of the project.
