Training Routes
There are several different routes which all result in QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) which we can summarise here but for more detail look at the websites of the individual providers.
Tuition Fee programmes charge a tuition fee which can be supported by DfE bursary (depending on subject/stage) or student loans. All your teaching is done alongside an experienced teacher and you will gradually take responsibility for more teaching throughout the year long programme.
Salaried programmes offer trainees a salary while you train. You will be an unqualified teacher for part of the week with your own timetable and groups to plan and teach. You will also have some time each week out of the classroom training with your ITT provider. These routes usually require some experience in education and include the postgraduate teaching apprenticeship.
