Since March 2020, the staff at Stamford Welland Academy have been working with a number of local charities to provide food parcels to vulnerable families in the community. The charities include Second Helpings Stamford, Christ Church Stamford and The Rapid Relief Team. Ms Lisa Dotchin, Student Support Advisor at SWA, is keen to bring on more charities to provide this essential service to the most vulnerable families in the community.
Christchurch Stamford, on behalf of the school, collect fortnightly donations from Sainsbury’s in Stamford.
Once the food parcels arrive, the staff at SWA volunteer their time to deliver these parcels to our families in and around Stamford.
Mr Steve Roberts explains, ‘The reason we looked into this was during the first lockdown we had several families in crisis which we wanted to support. This has then led to the school working with local food charities to distribute these items. Going forward we would like keep supporting our families during any difficulties they may face.’
Second Helpings Stamford are open Tuesday to Saturday and operate a Pay-As-You-Feel system.
