Pupils at Somersham Primary School have been busy working in their school garden, thanks to a generous donation of seeds and gardening tools from Allison Homes East to mark ‘National Children’s Gardening Week’.
‘National Children’s Gardening Week’, which runs from 24th May to 1st June, encourages children across the country to get outdoors, develop practical skills, and enjoy growing their own plants.
To support the event, Allison Homes East provided the school with 50 wildflower seed packets and two gardening tool kits, giving pupils the opportunity to take part in gardening activities and learn more about plants and the environment. The housebuilder is also donating a £50 B&Q voucher, allowing the school to purchase additional gardening supplies.

Their support gives our pupils the chance to get hands-on in our school garden, where they can learn about nature, teamwork and responsibility in a truly engaging way. Gardening brings so many benefits – it boosts wellbeing, encourages healthy habits, and inspires curiosity about the world around us.”
The donation has been well received by pupils, who are looking forward to planting the seeds and observing how their wildflowers grow over the coming weeks. Extending the boundaries of learning and offering opportunities for learning outside the classroom are central to the ethos at Somersham Primary School and across Meridian Trust. This approach is supported by a commitment to providing creative and practical experiences for every pupil.
