Pupils from Sawtry Junior Academy recently attended the prestigious ‘Young Voices’ event in Birmingham.
The concert, which was held at the Resorts World Arena, saw 50 pupils from the school’s choir perform.
Under the guidance of their teachers, the pupils honed and demonstrated their singing and performing skills. They had been rehearsing since the Autumn half term, during after-school choir club. This allowed them to prepare, anticipating sharing the stage with thousands of young performers from across the country.
On the day of the event (January 22nd), pupils from Sawtry Junior Academy performed a variety of different songs. These ranged from traditional songs to modern and classic pop songs. Pupils also performed a medley from the musical Matilda, and a medley from Disney’s Moana.
Sarah Flack, Headteacher at Sawtry Junior Academy, said: “This was a wonderful opportunity for our children to perform with other schools, and take part in a large-scale event. We are very proud of all our children who performed, especially with their parents watching on in the audience.”
The pupils who attended spoke positively of their experience at the Young Voices event.
Darcy, a pupil at Sawtry Junior Academy, said: “When everyone was singing at once, it was amazing… magical!”
Tamsyn, who also attended, added: “The atmosphere was so exciting, it gave me goosebumps.”
“It was great to see our parents and everyone having a good time.”
Young Voices is an annual event, where between 5000-8000 children will perform in sold-out venues across the country. It is one of the largest choir concerts in the world, with the audience consisting of families and friends.
Pupils from Sawtry Junior Academy have attended annually since 2017.
The money raised from these events goes towards the Young Voices Foundation, which helps support young people through delivering music and singing projects, giving grants to increase opportunities, and providing projects that support the development of leaders and teachers.
