Primary Schools Excel at South Cambridgeshire District Cross-Country Event

Over 1,000 pupils from 24 South Cambridgeshire primary schools participated in the annual District Cross-Country event on November 20, 2024, held at Wimpole Estate. The competition brought together pupils from Years 3 to 6 on a chilly morning, but as the sun broke through, it turned into a beautiful day, setting the perfect backdrop for the event.

Several Meridian Trust primary schools were well-represented at the event, including Trumpington Park, Bar Hill, Hatton Park, and the two Histon schools – Histon and Impington Park Primary and Histon and Impington Brook Primary. The 1-mile course looped around the parkland before finishing along the main drive to Wimpole House.

Meridian Trust schools delivered impressive performances throughout the day. Histon and Impington Park Primary celebrated multiple top finishes, with standout results in the Year 5 Girls’ race and strong showings in other categories. Histon and Impington Brook Primary also excelled, securing notable placements in both boys’ and girls’ races. Bar Hill Primary and Trumpington Park contributed to the success with commendable performances across various year groups.

In terms of team results, Histon and Impington Brook Primary finished an impressive 1st out of 24 teams in the Year 5/6 competition, with their neighbours at Histon and Impington Park Primary taking 2nd place. In the Year 3/4 competition, Histon and Impington Park Primary claimed the top spot, while Histon and Impington Brook Primary secured 2nd place.

To see their hard work and dedication translate into such outstanding results is a proud moment for our schools,” said Becca Thompson and Shona Inman, Assistant Headteachers at Histon and Impington Brook Primary. “The collaboration and spirit across all the participating schools were truly inspiring, and these achievements reflect the vibrant sporting culture we strive to cultivate at our Histon schools and across all Meridian Trust schools.”

Jonathan Newman, Headteacher of Histon and Impington Park Primary School, expressed his pride in the pupils’ achievements: “We are incredibly proud of all our pupils who participated in the District Cross-Country.
