On 7th September, a public event took place at Sawtry Village Academy to inform members of the community about plans for the new Primary School and Preschool in Sawtry, which Meridian Trust are the chosen sponsor for.
With planning approval granted for three large developments in Sawtry, Cambridgeshire County Council identified a need for a new primary school for the village with a proposed opening date of September 2023. We were granted approval by the Secretary of State to sponsor the proposed new primary free school in May.
Plans were shared at the event for a proposed site, which has been offered by Alison Homes as part of an agreement with Huntingdon District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council for the development of approximately 350 new homes on land off Glatton Road.
The site comprises the southeast corner of two large arable fields which make up the wider residential development site. It is located at the northern edge of Sawtry, with recent residential development to the south.
The school will be built with the facilities required to offer up to 420 places in line with housing growth and increased pupil numbers over the next few years. There will also be provision for Early Years and childcare for children aged 2-4 years.
