Guests gathered at a wall-signing event to mark the progress of the second phase of the expansion of the Northstowe Secondary College site.
Phase 2 of this project will see a 600 pupil-place expansion of the current secondary school. There will be a new sixth form situated on the Northstowe Secondary College site (which opened in 2019), with up to 400 places available.
Additionally, there will be a new primary school and pre-school, with 630 and 78 pupil-places respectively. The new sixth form and primary school will also have provision for children with Special Educational Needs.
The expanded school will be run by Meridian Trust and Cambridgeshire County Council will manage the development, with construction partner Kier leading on the design and build of the facilities.
The marquee activity of the day was for guests to sign their names on an area of wall inside the new building. This signed area will remain in the school for its lifetime.

“This Phase 2 is an opportunity to provide something special for our young people. Northstowe Secondary College is a school that knows its students as individuals that can support, nurture, and encourage them as they develop into hardworking young adults, ready to go out into the world and make a difference.
“We are proud to be a part of Meridian Trust, whose knowledge and expertise has helped us bring this vision to life.”

Cllr Sebastian Kindersley, Chairman of Cambridgeshire County Council, added: “This is a significant day for Northstowe, for Meridian Trust, for Cambridgeshire, and most importantly for our children and young people. It will provide learners from all ages access to exciting, new spaces that will inspire them to become ambitious young adults.”
The Phase 2 project is anticipated to be complete for the beginning of 2025.
Meridian Trust supports 30 schools across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, and Lincolnshire, including Martin Bacon Academy, adjacent to Northstowe Secondary College.
