During the evening of Tuesday 7th December, the Fitzwilliam Museum opened its doors exclusively to families from North Cambridge Academy in recognition of the success of its Year 7 students.
Despite only being at the academy for just four months, the students enjoyed a celebration for successfully completing their Arts Award qualification. All Year 7 students at North Cambridge Academy are expected to complete this award during their first year, putting arts at the heart of the curriculum.
To achieve the qualification, students completed a wide range of workshops at The Fitzwilliam Museum and Kettle’s Yard Gallery and have used these experiences to inspire their classwork.
A group of Year 10 students also received their Bronze Arts Award Certificates at the celebration. They have been involved with an exciting project which gave them the opportunity to work with Artists and Curators at Kettle’s Yard to produce a film, which was integrated into a recent exhibition at the gallery.
During the evening, families were treated to performances from the student choir and pianist and several students spoke about their experiences completing the Arts Award.
Jonathan Stanley, Head of Art, said, “This is the fifth year North Cambridge Academy students have been invited to receive their awards at the beautiful Fitzwilliam Museum which creates a memorable event for our art students to celebrate their achievements”.
