The Bluecoat Primary School and Nursery in Stamford has introduced a fresh, new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum to its pupils.
The new programme is designed around theme-based learning, to provide a rich and engaging educational experience for the children.
The unique curriculum provides a cohesive approach to learning for children from two years old to the end of the Reception Year – ensuring that the foundations of learning are securely in place and that children are school and life-ready.
The programme is holistic and language-rich. The child’s learning experience will be personalised to each individual and will provide play-based learning opportunities and transition readiness.
Each half term, a specific theme is chosen, and high-quality texts are carefully selected to facilitate children’s immersion in a variety of stories, poetry, and non-fiction texts. Through the exploration of these texts, the children are encouraged to develop as independent, resilient, and confident learners.
The new curriculum will cater to individual interests due to children being able to learn in both an outdoor and indoor learning environment. This will promote a natural curiosity and offer extensive opportunities for building positive relationships with peers and adults.
Rebecca Murphy, teacher at The Bluecoat School, explained why they have chosen seasonal themes in the Nursery: “Children learn best when experiences and activities are relevant and meaningful.”
“In Nursery, we follow seasonal themes where the children can explore the world around them through hands-on experiences both inside and outside the classroom. Learning about the seasons helps our children understand the passage of time and teaches them about changes in their environment.”

This is a programme that can be considered unique to the Stamford area.
