Nene Park Academy hosted a successful English language event on December 9th, welcoming 130 Year 11 students from Meridian Trust’s secondary schools. The event celebrated the importance of the English language, our command of the language of English, and its role in global communication.
The day opened with a thought-provoking introduction by Ben Morris followed by expert guidance from A-level English specialists, each of whom was entertaining, thought-provoking, and communicated with style!
Students were challenged with activities, including, appreciating the Trump tweet, and exploring lyrics by popular British rappers Dave and Central Cee. Finally, students were encouraged to immerse themselves into the world of Shakespeare, and what it may be like as either a young Hamlet navigating his father’s death, or a Kathy, knowing what it might be like to exist purely for the benefit of others. These exercises encouraged students to challenge the people we are, our roles and aspirations in society.
Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with participants expressing enthusiasm for the unexpected and enjoyable nature of the event. They appreciated the opportunity to meet students from other academies and recognised the value of developing critical thinking skills.
One student said: “I didn’t know what to expect from the day. It was completely different, and I completely loved it!”
