Once again, World Book Day proved to be a huge success across Meridian Trust. Discover how our schools got involved throughout the day…
At Northstowe Secondary College, the Library and English Department arranged a variety of exciting activities. Students across all years read the Roald Dahl book, ‘Lamb to the Slaughter’, across the day in five instalments.
Around the school, there was a character scavenger hunt and book recommendations from staff and library ambassadors. On Friday, Niche Comics Bookshop are visiting the school, allowing students to indulge in their love of comics and graphic novels. Money will also be raised through a Bake Sale, with all proceeds going towards the library upkeep.
Over at Lantern Community Primary, Ely, children and staff came to school dressed in a superb array of costumes. The outfits ranged from those instantly recognisable to those that the children wanted to learn more about.
Those from nearby Downham Feoffees Primary Academy dressed as their favourite book characters, including Harry Potter, Paddington, Willy Wonka, and much more!
Year 3 pupils took part in a BBC teach live session, where they designed their own book cover and wrote fantasy stories. Year 6 got involved by taking part in a quiz.
Sawtry Village Academy celebrated World Book Day across all houses with a form room challenge! The challenge was to turn each form room door into a book cover. All students got involved with a great selection of texts being recreated. The designs ranged from The Hobbit, Marcus Rashford, and A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.
Students at Swavesey Village College joined in on the celebrations with a similar door-decorating competition. During form time, Years 8 to 11 competed in an inter-house quiz on classic and modern literature, while Year 7 gathered for an assembly that focused on the importance of World Book Day.
The Ferrers School came together for World Book Day by having every class complete a reading starter in lessons. Team English performed a live reading of their favourite extracts from Matilda at break time. At lunch, students gathered in the library to take part in a World Book Day quiz. Helpful Sixth Formers supported the younger students in lessons and reading in form time.
World Book Day celebrations were in full swing at North Cambridge Academy. The amazing staff members transformed themselves into brilliant costumes! The talented students were busy crafting bookmarks, reflecting the themes of the stories they had been exploring.
At Lincroft Academy, students took part in a Book Cover Treasure Hunt, trying to find the bookmarks of their teachers’ favourite books. A World Book Day Book Swap also took place, enabling students to bring a book they no longer need to swap for a different book to read.
For Stamford Welland Academy, a mystery reader challenge was set to test students on their knowledge of school staff with popular reads as clues.
Pupils at NeneGate School were put to the test as they tried to identify the ‘Masked Reader’. There were also some fantastic outfits on show, with the Mandalorian being a firm favourite!
Students at Nene Park Academy dressed in some brilliant outfits to celebrate World Book Day. Throughout the day students completed form time quizzes, class reading, and library lessons. The Schoolastic Book Fair was also in all week to allow students to purchase books!
Overall, it was another fantastic day, that has become a real highlight of the year for schools across our Trust!
