Students across seven of Meridian Trust’s academies gathered on Thursday 17th August to celebrate another fantastic set of results, with many achieving the grades needed to take their chosen next steps in education.
Watch below as students from Sharnbrook Academy, Nene Park Academy, Sawtry Village Academy, Bishop Laney Sixth Form, GPUTC, The Ferrers School and Stratton Upper School collected their results and celebrated with their families and Meridian Trust colleagues.
Sharnbrook Academy
Several students from Sharnbrook Academy braved opening their results live on air, with Good Morning Britain and ITV Anglia visiting the school to capture the celebrations.
The Director of Sixth Form, Daniel Baxby, said: “We are extremely pleased and proud of the results our students have achieved. The determination they have shown to meet the challenges of the last two years has been rightly rewarded.
“We have students going to a range of destinations including Oxbridge, and other universities across the UK and abroad. We also have a number of students who have secured prestigious graduate-level apprenticeship opportunities through our extensive regional, national and international partnerships.”
Lauren Gill and Isabella Whetstone both achieved three A* grades and will be heading to the University of Oxford to study medicine and chemistry respectively.
Nene Park Academy
ITV Anglia also visited Nene Park Academy. Robin Grover, Principal, said: “Our Year 13 students should be incredibly proud of themselves. I am thrilled at the results achieved both individually and collectively after a long and challenging year. Our students have done themselves proud.”
“Each student’s success has been achieved by hard work and resilience. I am grateful to our fantastic staff who have supported every student to achieve the results they need to embark on the next stage of their education and training.”
Eva Woods – also Peterborough’s youth MP – achieved two grade As in History and Spanish, and two A*s in English Literature and Sociology. She secured a place at University of Manchester to study Arabic and Spanish. Cameron Hawkrigg achieved three grade As and a grade B in Physics, Maths, Chemistry and Further Maths respectively. He will go on to Loughborough University to study Automotive Engineering.
Greater Peterborough UTC
GPUTC Principal David Bisley praised the effort of his students and staff: “We are extremely pleased with the results our students achieved in their technical and vocational STEM subjects.
“The vast majority of our students have achieved the top grades or distinction star and distinction grades. These outcomes further validate the need for Peterborough to have a technical college as part of its education offer.”
Adam Lawes achieved 3 A grades at A level and will be going to University of Oxford to study Biochemistry.
Stratton Upper School
Sam Farmer, Stratton Upper School Principal, said: “We are incredibly proud of our Year 13 leavers collecting their results today. Over 80% of applicants to University have received an accepted offer, with more expected to secure places yesterday afternoon.
“Today is a testament to the remarkable progress our students have made through their educational journey, guided by the values of responsibility and pride that we promote at Stratton Upper School.”
Some of the subjects that students at Stratton Upper School will read as part of their next destinations include: biomechanical engineering at the University of Reading, economics at Loughborough University, social policy at the University of Bath, biological science at Royal Veterinary College, chemistry at the University of York and computer science at University of Hertfordshire.
The Ferrers School
Head of Sixth Form at The Ferrers School, Helen Prince, said: “This year group were hit the hardest by the disruptions of the pandemic. They didn’t sit formal examinations in their GCSE year and had to work hard to develop the good study habits they needed to succeed in their Post-16 studies. With the support of our talented colleagues, they have flourished, and we are very proud of the resilience they have shown.”
The school is celebrating several students who have secured a future pathway through specialist provisions or apprenticeships, including Adam, who has a place at Silverstone National College for Motorsport to study Motorsport Engineering, and Caitlin, who has been successful in applying for an Accountancy apprenticeship at RSM.
Bishop Laney Sixth Form
Adam Steels, Head of Bishop Laney Sixth Form, said: “We are delighted with these results which reflect the continued growth and success of Bishop Laney Sixth Form. These results mean our students are completing their studies with some of the highest grades ever achieved at Bishop Laney.”
“I congratulate the students on these results and thank staff, parents and families for the part they played in realising these aspirations. Our students leave us today not only heading to Universities up and down the country from Cardiff to Newcastle and many places in between; but also to take on high-quality apprenticeship roles, whether those be in London, or closer to home at Addenbrookes’ Hospital, or here in Ely.”
Maria Akritidou achieved two A*s and an A Grade across her three A Level subjects of Art, Pscyhology, and Sociology; and will take up a place at the University of East Anglia to study Psychology. Caydn Perez-Bent combines Computer Science and Maths A Levels grades of A and B with a starred Distinction in Business to join Sky, on their engineering degree apprenticeship programme.
Sawtry Village Academy
Head of Sixth Form at Sawtry Village Academy, Tom Hill, said “The last two years have presented unique challenges for all pupils and it is very rewarding to see the hard work and dedication of our students pay off.
“These young adults now prepare to go on to university, apprenticeships or their chosen careers.
“We will ensure that we continue to provide ongoing support to students with their future plans in the coming days.”
Natalie Bate who attained A* in mathematics, A* in biology, A* chemistry and an A in extended project qualification (EPQ) will be going to Oxford University to study Biochemistry (Molecular and Cellular).
Cerys James who attained A* in psychology, A in English literature, A in history and an A in extended project qualification (EPQ) will be going to the University of Cambridge to study English Literature.
