Move over Premier League, there is another football tournament reaching a thrilling finale in May.
Ready those school chants for the Meridian Trust Football Cup Finals Day taking place at Swavesey Village College tomorrow (Friday 12th May).
The tournament has so far seen a number of games across tournaments from Years 7 to 10, for both boys and girls.
The itinerary for finals day which runs from 9am to 4.30pm is:
– Year 7 Boys Final – Swavesey Village College v Northstowe Secondary College
– Years 7/8 Girls Final – Sawtry Village Academy v Swavesey Village College
– Years 9/10 Girls Final – Nene Park Academy v Swavesey Village College
– Year 9 Boys Final – Swavesey Village College v Nene Park Academy
– Year 8 Boys Final – The Ferrers School v Swavesey Village College
– Year 10 Boys Final – Northstowe Secondary College v The Ferrers School
There have been some outstanding team and individual performances so far throughout the group stages and Semi Final matches. The Finals themselves should be an excellent spectacle with lots of talent on show!
Greg Hodgkinson, Director of Sport at Swavesey Village College and the organiser of this new competition said: “This is the first year of this competition, but we are hoping it will become a prestigious annual event for Meridian Trust Schools and help raise the profile of sport within the Trust.
“Football has always been a popular sport in schools and we are blessed to have some very talented footballers throughout the Trust.”
“All eyes are now firmly on Finals Day and we wish all those teams taking part the very best of luck! Lastly, a huge thank you to all the schools who have taken part over the year and to the members of staff who have given up their time to organise matches.”
The Finals will be streamed live on the day to allow students to watch the games and support the pupils taking part in the matches.
