The Cambridge Partnership is celebrating after gaining approval from the Department for Education to continue delivering school-based teacher training courses throughout the region.
The Cambridge Partnership has been training inspirational teachers and future school leaders across more than 200 schools throughout the East of England for 15 years. Originally based out of Sawtry Village Academy, the Partnership became part of Meridian Trust in 2015, moving to new offices in Swavesey Village College.
The accreditation is part of a new Department for Education strategy to appoint a smaller number of providers, focused on delivering high-quality teacher training, that supports the government’s levelling up agenda to recruit and retain more teachers.
The Cambridge Partnership is among 99 providers across the country that were accredited by the DfE last week. The Cambridge Partnership has recently welcomed 140 new trainee teachers into their placement schools this year, and this accreditation means they can continue this to deliver the new SCITTs (School Centred Initial Teaching Training) programmes from 2024 onwards.
Richard Davies, Director of ITT at Meridian Trust, said: “We are delighted that the quality of our teacher training courses has been recognised by the DfE. The accreditation is a huge badge of honour that entrusts us with training hundreds of new teachers through a range of school-based programmes that all result in qualified teacher status. Young people deserve great teachers, and the school-based training approach has consistently delivered this for schools across our region for many years. The local approach means that we tailor our training to meet local needs – giving schools, teachers, and pupils what they need. Typically, SCITT teachers also tend to continue teaching within our local region too. We look forward to training many more teachers in the years to come.”
The Cambridge Partnership was also joined by Anglia Ruskin University, University of Cambridge and Cambridge Teaching School Network – organisations that they already partner with – in receiving their accreditation.
