Lincroft Academy, part of Meridian Trust, has officially opened its newly modernised facilities, including a dining hall and activity studio.
This milestone marks the completion of the first phase of an extensive development programme at the Bedfordshire school aimed at enhancing the educational environment for its 1,000 students, staff, and the wider community.
Previously, the 11-16 secondary academy had faced challenges due to outdated buildings and limited space, issues inherited from its history as a middle school. Recognising these needs, Meridian Trust, which the school joined in 2021, has invested over £5 million rejuvenating the school with modern, efficient facilities.
The state-of-the-art dining block addresses previous overcrowding issues and offers a welcoming environment for students to dine and socialise. The full kitchen refurbishment ensures that culinary facilities now meet contemporary standards, capable of efficiently serving the school’s population.
Additionally, the new mezzanine activity studio stands as a versatile space for physical activities, assemblies, school productions, and community events. This modern facility replaces the outdated space previously used, aligning with the school’s commitment to fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Speaking at the official opening, Principal Emma Appadoo said: “This transformation marks a significant milestone for Lincroft Academy. Our new facilities not only meet the current needs of our students but also enhance their overall educational experience. We are excited about the positive impact this will have on our school community.”

Among the guests at the official opening was Mr Martin Darlow, Deputy Lieutenant of Bedfordshire. Mr Darlow praised the school, the Trust and project partners for the modern appeal of new facilities and watched the demonstrations put on for guests including piano recitals and dance performances.
School students expressed their enthusiasm for the new facilities. Daniel, Year 10, said: “I’m looking forward to a modern and relaxed school dining experience where we can eat and socialise, a huge upgrade on what we had previously.”
Imelda, Year 10, added: “Performing arts is taken very seriously at Lincroft Academy and this new activity studio will help so much. The extra space will allow us to get more students involved.”
Construction of the dining block was carried out with minimal disruption to daily school operations, thanks to an interim kitchen and dining setup in a tented area on the school grounds.
