Pupils from Histon and Impington Park Primary School (HIPPS) in Cambridgeshire performed at the O2 Arena in London on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025. The school’s choir joined hundreds of other primary schools in the annual Young Voices concert, showcasing their musical talent.
Seventy-six children from years 3 to 6 represented HIPPS in this prestigious event. The choir, led by teachers Abigail Jackson and Lisa Moule, performed an impressive repertoire of 12 songs, including “Brighter Days,” “Lean on Me,” “Readers Are Leaders,” and an original song called “Oceania” written specifically for Young Voices.
The pupils were accompanied by a team of teachers: Mrs Jackson, Miss Moule, Mrs Rogers, Mrs Cox, Mrs Celentano, Mrs Evans, and Mrs Taylor. Over 100 family members also attended the event in London to support the young performers and be entertained for the evening. Special thanks went to the parent-helpers, who kindly volunteered their time to support the event: Mrs Harborow, Mrs Hooper and Mrs Alexander.
Abigail Jackson, who co-led the school’s participation in the event, shared her pride in the children: “This is one of the highlights of the year for our school choir. It has been an absolute privilege to witness the excitement but also the hard work and focus that the children have put into learning the lyrics and dance moves, leading up to the big day.” She continued: “Throughout the day, the children were amazing, showing enthusiasm and pride, even when the tiredness kicked in! Staff from the 02 even commented on the exceptional manners displayed by HIPPS pupils.”
The excitement and significance of the event were not lost on the young performers. Oliver, a Year 6 pupil, said, “It was the best day of my life!” Bella from Year 5 added, “The atmosphere was crazy when the lights went out and all the torches were waving in the air! I give the day 10/10.”
Young Voices, established in 1997, organises the largest children’s choir concerts in the world. These events bring together thousands of children who rehearse separately in their schools and unite (in large arenas) as a single choir on the day of the performance.
