Following last week’s A-Level success, staff and students across Meridian Trust are thrilled to be celebrating again after receiving an impressive set of GCSE results.
This year’s cohort are the first to sit formal GCSE exams in two years and despite the huge challenges faced over their Key Stage 4 learning, they have exceeded all expectations.
Following notable performances our students are moving on to their next steps in life whether this is sixth form, college or apprenticeship. To celebrate the success, we have included information from across our schools in this round up.
There was much to celebrate at Swavesey Village College as students enjoyed another year of fantastic GCSE results. The College’s highest achieving students were Mairéad Mitchell who achieved eleven grade 9s and Ahana Roy who achieved ten grade 9s and a distinction star. Acting Headteacher of Swavesey Village College, Claire Mills, said: “Our students have shown great resilience through a turbulent two and a half years and the results awarded demonstrate the consistent hard work and efforts that they have applied to their studies throughout their time here at Swavesey. I wish all of our Year 11 students the greatest success in the next steps of their journey.”
Several students shone brightly for Ely College, four of which achieved top grades in 10 subjects. Charlotte Beck also impressed with nine grade 9s, while Rachel Lee and Ella Dunham secured eight grade 9s each. Principal Mr Warburton, said: “We could not be prouder of the maturity and determination that they have shown over the past two years; this group of students have not let their circumstances affect their determination to succeed.”
Another student celebrating is Stamford Welland Academy’s Charlie Buckley who achieved an amazing eight grade 9s across all of his chosen subjects. The sheer hard work and dedication of Kevin Quin, Holly Laughnane-Knight, Abbie Blair, Sam Clarke, Carrie Miller, Holly Seaton, Lewis North, Logan Green, Kaelin Watson and Ben Doyle, was also rewarded as the students averaged grades 8 – 9 across their complement of GCSEs.
Six students from North Cambridge Academy have secured a fully funded two-year scholarship at the Stephen Perse Foundation in Cambridge. Byushra Ahmed, Nadia Ahmed, Angel Rodrigues, Beth Hooker, Joseph Wood and Arturs Teivan will all be pursuing their sixth form studies at this prestigious college from September.
Clare Raku, Principal of Sharnbrook Academy, said: “Our Year 11 students have shown huge maturity and resilience working extremely hard throughout their studies to achieve an excellent set of results.” Students honouring incredible success include Thea Dolby who achieved nine grade 9s, one grade 8 and one grade 7 alongside Ali Zghaibe who achieved ten grade 9s and one grade 7.
Stratton Upper School celebrated a number of outstanding achievements including Daniel Wilkinson and Alice Thompson who each achieved no fewer than six grade 9s. The following students gained an average grade of 8 or higher across all their subjects: Oliver Meyer, Rebecca Bayman, Amy O’brien, Cate Fisher, Emilie Prout, Natalia Kibilko, Emily Calver, William Story, Kylie El Tawagny and Amy Andrews.
Simon Parsons, Principal at Sawtry Village Academy, said: “We could not be prouder of what our students have achieved this year and how hard they have worked throughout their studies.” The top highest achieving student was Danielle John who attained nine grade 9s. Ethan Batty, Amy Coates, Ava Coates, Danielle John, Isabelle Johnson, Daniella Brown, Cian Cross and Robert Goulding were also rewarded as they averaged over grade 7.
Standout subjects at The Ferrers School include Sport, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, Art and Design and English. Special mention goes to Sophia Arnold-Rayner, Oliver Radd, Jake Hamblin, Ethan Mead, Shannon Caine, Thomas Stephen and Ashontai Gowie who averaged over grade 7 across their subjects.
Amongst many of the top performers at Greater Peterborough UTC, Dominic Abblitt achieved three 9s, two 8s and a Level 2 Distinction in Engineering. Speaking on his success, he said: “I’m really happy with my results. It feels amazing to be one of the top achievers at the school and I’m really happy to be continuing my A-Level studies here.”
Students at Nene Park Academy look forward to the future after the accomplishments seen today. Two of the Academy’s top achievers were Eliza Greenwood who received eight grade 9s and two grade 8s and Samuel Jobe-Mendez received seven grade 9s and a grade, 8, 7 and 6.
Special mentions are also needed for those students at Lincroft Academy who achieved grades well above their targets. Each of the following students secured GCSEs at least two grades above their predicted outcomes in three or more subjects: Paige Horrocks, Kai Williams, Diya Mrok and Bethany Ciampi. Some of the school’s highest attaining students included: Ned Liley, Hazelle Te, Delayahu and Hannah O’Dowd.

When the pandemic caused school closures and our students turned to remote learning it was unclear what the future held for our young people. It was a pleasure to witness the maturity and determination shown through these challenging times and we are extremely proud of everything they have achieved today. A huge thank you to our amazing staff for continuing to inspire and encourage this year’s students, their results are a true reflection of the unwavering support shown over the last few years.”
