Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I qualified as a teacher in 2009 and started as an NQT in a primary school not far from Somersham. There, I was lucky to work with an excellent headteacher and wider team – and working my way up, eventually became deputy head in 2014. I joined Somersham as a headteacher in 2019, shortly after the school joined CPET.
Day to day, I’m responsible for running the school and ensuring the highest levels of education for our pupils. It’s great working with such a dedicated, hard working team day in and day out – it makes the job so much easier.
What are your ambitions for the Somersham Primary School?
We would love for Osfted to visit and see first-hand all the wonderful work we’ve put into ensuring Somersham delivers a high-quality educational provision at the heart of our community. But it’s not just about Ofsted, we’re so keen to continue our journey of good practice, and harness additional opportunities for our young people so they leave here with a thirst for learning, reach their potential, and succeed in life.
Do you have any exciting plans for the future?
Yes, there’s lots of interesting initiatives and events on our horizon! Recently, our Year 3 and 4 pupils put on a performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat – and it was superb to have such a buzz within the school! Looking ahead, we have Sports Day coming back after two years without it, and lots more exciting fetes, trips, and visits planned.
What’s the best thing about being a headteacher at Somersham Primary School?
The best thing would have to be working with such a fantastic team and wider community at Somersham. Every one of our community members, whether it’s support staff, teachers, parents, or the wider Trust team, go above and beyond for our pupils and it’s lovely to see. For any school to thrive, you need a group who is dedicated and committed to improving outcomes for young people – be it wellbeing, opportunities, or academic progression – so it’s a privilege to be a part of that.
Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?
At one point, I was a Guinness World Record holder for the world’s largest group of people doing the robot dance at the same time! It happened while I was at university so I’m not sure I still hold the record – but it was brilliant to do at the time.
