David Ruddy

Chair, Board of Trustees and Member

David began his career as an apprentice mechanical engineer before spending more than 35 years in the motor and luxury boat industries. During this time, he progressed through a variety of roles, ultimately holding senior executive positions with multinational companies.

He then moved into further education, where he spent 15 years in leadership roles, including serving as Executive Director for Growth and Strategic Partnerships at West Suffolk College. More recently, he retired from his work as an independent business consultant, board adviser, chair and non-executive director, supporting organisations to identify strategic opportunities and achieve their operational and long-term objectives.

David is also the former Chair of Gateway Qualifications, an awarding organisation specialising in credit-based learning.

Since 2004, he has worked closely with Meridian Trust colleagues and schools in a range of capacities. His experience across strategic leadership, business, further education and partnership development has given him a strong understanding of both the Trust and the wider education and business landscape.

David has a particularly long-standing connection with Swavesey Village College, where he served as a governor from 2004 to 2014, including six years as Chair of Governors.

David has been a Member and Vice Chairman of Trustees at Meridian Trust. In September 2026, he became Chair of Trustees.
