Daniel

Meridian House and The Ferrers School Alumnus

Daniel, a Year 11 student, joined Meridian House in October 2024, Meridian Trust’s bespoke provision, which supports students from The Ferrers School, Daniel’s home school, Lincroft Academy and Sharnbrook Academy. Meridian House is a directed provision, which supports students to overcome their barriers to learning, attending, attainment and prepares them for further education, training or employment.

During his eight months at the school, he discovered a passion for working with horses, thanks to the support and guidance of colleagues such as Sarah Anderson, the Meridian House Lead Equestrian Coach.

Today, Daniel is continuing their equine journey at Moulton College, building on the skills, experiences, and confidence gained at Meridian House. We recently asked him some questions about his experience for our new My Studies series, showcasing alumni from across our schools:

In one sentence how would you describe Meridian House to someone new?

“It is a wonderful school with great staff who want to help you grow and always put your needs first.”

What skills or qualities do you use now that your learned at Meridian House?

“I struggled with respect and kindness in mainstream education, but at Meridian House I was able to develop these skills, and this helps me every day.”

Is there a teacher or member of staff that had a particular impact on you, and why?

“Without Sarah exposing me to horses, I would never have discovered how much I enjoyed working with them or pursued a career in this field.”

Were there any opportunities of experiences during your time at Meridian House that helped shape your path?

“Spending time with horses twice a week really sparked my interest in the industry. This inspired me to apply to an Equine Management course at college, where I was accepted and moved up to Level 2 a few weeks later, thanks to all that Sarah had taught me during my time at Meridian House.”

What are your hopes and goals for the next few years?

“I am hoping to gain my British Horse Society qualification at college and eventually become a Competition Groom.”

Meridian House aims to deliver on the vision and ambition that our students leave school with the skills, values, aptitudes and capabilities necessary to realise their full potential and allow them to fully contribute to society. We’re proud of all that Daniel has achieved and wish them every success for the future.
