On Thursday 7th October, pupils from across CMAT came together to mark National Poetry Day. The event, which takes place annually, aims to build pupils’ love of reading, writing and performing poems and the theme this year was ‘choice’.
Year 7 and 8 pupils at Swavesey Village College enjoyed a series of dedicated poetry writing lessons, while taking part in the Young Writers Empowered Poetry Writing Competition. Stratton Upper School pupils also took part in the competition and their Creative Writing Club took to Instagram to share some of the poems they’d written throughout the day.
At The Ferrers School, the Learning Resource Centre was the heart of celebrations. Posters and bookmarks were handed out and poetry was displayed around the school, along with a lovely display of novels written in verse. Lincroft Academy and North Cambridge Academy form tutors chose a poem to share and discuss with their group, coming up with some exceptional ideas and readings.
A fantastic array of poetry was written by our pupils throughout the day but Mary Currie, English Curriculum Area Lead, has shared her favourite poem below, written by Maya in Year 7.
