And they’re off… staff and members of Academy Leisure Sawtry and students and staff from CMAT and Sawtry Village Academy are currently taking on a 24-hour bikeathon to raise money for BBC Children in Need.
Year 7 students from Sawtry Village Academy were one of the first to jump on the bike and were interviewed about the challenge this morning by a reporter from CBBC’s Newsround. To watch the Newsround interview in full, click here.
The event, which kicked off at 6.30 am this morning (19th November) will run until 6.30 am tomorrow morning (20th November). Participants have been allocated time slots on the continuously running exercise bike ranging from ten to 30 minutes – those wanting to take part virtually are also able to do so.
The team have nearly hit their target of £2,000 and show no signs of slowing down! They reached 50km at 9.20 am and 100km at 10.20 am. The goal for the end of the day is 463km.
