Trust involvement 2016. First inspection 2019 graded good.
Sawtry Junior School had a long history of consistently being graded RI and turning out mediocre to poor results for children at the end of Year 6. CMAT got involved as it was considering becoming a sponsored academy in 2016. We went through a process of talent spotting and teacher development over the next three years utilising our established good pedagogies and investing heavily in teacher training and support, to ensure that the teaching improved and made a difference to the children. With a now established and strong team and a capable and dynamic head at its helm, the newly branded Sawtry Junior Academy, has gone from strength to strength developing its curriculum to ensure it has depth and progression and mechanisms for enabling children to really hang on to their learning. Daily reading and a six part maths mastery have been introduced alongside an innovative outdoor cookery programme which is embedded into its topic provision. Consistent and supportive reviews and data sharing within the trust support the school in targeting resources where they are needed, to ensure that all children achieve the best they can. From being a school who benefitted from much support from the wider trust when it initially joined CMAT, Sawtry is now proud to be sharing its teachers and expertise throughout other primaries in the trust – a real success story of the supported becoming capable and valued supporters of others.
