CMAT primary schools have collaboratively developed a bespoke approach to curriculum topic planning which ensures schools have autonomy over their curriculum choices whilst simultaneously embedding the effective pedagogies, to ensure children learn at depth and are able to apply their learning and retain key facts in their long term memory. An underlying structure and approach to planning underpins all topics. There is a model CMAT curriculum and bank of topics for schools to draw on should they wish to or they can use the planning tools to create their own high level topic and progression plans. All lessons contain key elements encompassing recall, new knowledge acquisition, comprehension and active learning, assimilation of knowledge at a higher level of challenge culminating in a written outcome which enables the children to apply their knowledge at a deeper level.
