Children from the Nursery and Reception classes at The Bluecoat Primary School in Stamford enjoyed a ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’ earlier this week. They were also joined by those who will be starting school in September.
Attendees were encouraged to bring their favourite teddy along and enjoy a picnic and games on the school field, along with a chance to meet their new class teachers.
Annie Hickman, EYFS Teacher explained: “It was a lovely chance for the parents to meet their child’s new teacher and there were some delicious treats to enjoy as well!”
A total of 21 children (joined by siblings and parents) had fun at the event (held on Monday 3rd July), showing off their favourite teddy to their teachers and friends. Lots of games were played on the expansive Bluecoat School fields and a great time was had by all.
One parent commented: “The Teddy bears’ picnic was lovely! It was great to informally meet new teachers and watch the children playing so nicely together.”
Another said: “It would be great to do these more often, especially when the weather is so nice!”
Emma Houlton, Principal of The Bluecoat School, which is part of Meridian Trust, said: “We aim to give all children in our Foundation Stage Unit (Nursery and Reception) an exciting, challenging and meaningful start to their learning journey with us, so it was wonderful to see the children enjoying our Teddy Bear’s Picnic on Monday.”
She continued: “We pride ourselves on extending the boundaries of learning for our pupils – at every age, and we’re very fortunate to have so much outdoor space, giving us lots of opportunities for experiences like this.”
Children from Reception class also experienced the excitement of setting their class butterflies free last week.
Annie explained: “The children enjoyed learning about the lifecycle of butterflies – from tiny caterpillars, to chrysalises, to adult butterflies. Once they hatched, we released them into the school grounds where they fed on nearby flowers. It was lovely to watch!”
