Staff and pupils at Bar Hill Primary School are delighted to introduce their new school logo, which has been designed by a pupil at the school.
The school has been working with pupils, colleagues and the community this year to investigate rebranding its logo, to mark a new era in the school’s journey and align themselves with other schools which are also part of Meridian Trust.
Working with the PR agency, Athene Communications, Year 5 and 6 pupils were given the opportunity to work on a project linked to their Computing Curriculum, where they learned about the use of logos in marketing and advertising and were then tasked with redesigning the school logo.
During the workshop, pupils were presented with logos that were recognisable to the children and discussed what made these logos stand out. The children explored the school’s current logo and the designs of other school logos to gain a better understanding of the symbolism that had been used to create each one.
Pupils then put their ideas on paper by first doing their own research about the school, which helped incorporate their ideas into a design. These ideas were then converted from paper into a vector graphic image for staff at the school to judge their three favourite designs.
Charlotte Linden, Principal of Bar Hill Primary School, said: “The designs the children came up with were very impressive. There were lots of brilliant ideas and we definitely have some budding artists and graphic designers. It was a very difficult decision as there were so many fantastic designs.”
Pupils Rylan, Franek and Harvey’s designs were chosen by the school as their top three logo choices. These were then sent to a designer who professionally recreated the logos based on these pupils’ drawings. The local school community then had the chance to provide their feedback and vote on their favourite design with a winner being announced afterwards.
Charlotte continued: “We were delighted to announce that Franek’s design was chosen as the winner. Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback to make this informed decision and a huge thank you to all the children in Years 5 and 6 who took part in the process. In particular, we would like to congratulate Franek for his imagination and for creating such a brilliant design idea.
“Whilst the logo is more modern and colourful, we still believe it is an accurate representation of the school, with the five swishes on the logo symbolising our five core values: honesty, respect, love, kindness and equality, and look forward to seeing our pupils proudly wearing it on their uniforms.”
The new logo is gradually being phased into the school with branded uniforms being introduced from the next academic year.
