Members of the Sawtry community came together to celebrate the re-opening of Academy Leisure following 18 months of Covid closures and a modern refurbishment.
On Saturday 4th September, the centre welcomed over 1,000 members of the local community and saw over 200 new membership sign ups. The event not only showcased the centre’s refurbished facilities and modern look, but offered free activities, including fitness classes, a rowing challenge and public swim lessons available to those in attendance.
The Open Day, which tied into the Sawtry Sports 4 All village event run by community volunteers from the Walk 2 Run and CARESCO groups, helped to bring back a real sense of community to the area after a challenging period for all.
Brian Gray, CMAT Leisure Operations Manager, said: “With the difficulties Covid-19 presented during this past year, we are delighted to have finally opened our doors to the public after a highly anticipated launch event.
“Throughout our closure, we took the time to invest in a thorough refurbishment ensuring that the centre can continue to deliver a high-quality service upon its re-opening. The centre has been updated with new changing facilities, a new relaxing ‘Club Lounge’ and a full upgrade to our Fitness Suite to help improve user experience and access to a wider range of equipment than ever before.
“We are thrilled with the success of our launch event and want to thank the Sawtry Community for their continued support over this ongoing venture. We hope our new facilities become a dedicated place for young people and the wider community to enjoy the wellbeing and mental health benefits physical activity has to offer and look forward to seeing the community thrive as a result.”
Additional upgrades to the centre include a new digital check-in and online membership booking system, a new Fitness Suite that has doubled in size and new visual branding to reflect the aesthetic improvements that have been made. Existing facilities, such as the outdoor fields and swimming pool, are also available for use.
